Life Chez Dee Episode #54: A Cultural Weekend
It’s been rather a cultured weekend of arts and music. When I use the term cultured here I simply refer to how I interpret the use of this phrase. If someone were to be described as cultured I’d immediately assume a knowledgeable and learned person, of good taste and having a love of arts and music. I’m well aware that there is far more to the meaning of cultured but when I write I’m assuming that this is the way it will be interpreted, but as I lecture the boys in how they s

Life Chez Dee Episode #40: 5 12 19
5th December is a date etched well and truly in my psyche. Three years ago was probably the most horrific and traumatic day I have ever, ever had, or ever will have. The day when my boy, my beautiful, funny, cheeky, bundle of energy, became very ill; seriously ill; and didn’t get better. 5th December 2016 was the day that Edward died. Today I woke up to the most beautiful red sky, obviously Edward hard at work making his presence felt by setting the sky alight on this third a

Life Chez Dee Episode #38: Liz and Jill
There are people you meet who you just connect with, completely gel with. The sort that when you’re with them, there is an ease about the time you spend with them. You can be yourself; you can say things that don’t really offend, not that you generally say things which offend, but because they’re on the same page as you, they don’t get offended … by anything. There’s an ease to the conversation … being able to talk openly, have someone listen, really listen, comment, give the

Life Chez Dee Episode #35: Halloween
Is it only me who hates Halloween? I really loathe it .. with a passion …with a vengeance. I was in two minds as to whether to post this blog … I know that I’m opening myself up to a severe backlash, but given that in all my blogs, I write about me, about my thoughts, about my life, about what’s on my mind, I really need to be writing about what’s going on all around me at the moment. It’s everywhere … all the shops which are selling tat, tat and more tat; supermarkets sellin

Life Chez Dee Episode #34: Walking with Oli
I know I’ve written quite a few blogs about my adventures out and about with the Nordic walkers, but today was rather special for me. Oliver is still on school holidays and asked if he could come with me; I cleared it with Ewa, but I knew deep down she’d be okay with it, he was with me, and he’d already proved himself capable of coping and keeping up when he’d walked with the group before. He’d had his first taste of effective walking when he came along with Bart, Ewa and lot

Life Chez Dee Episode #32: Bagging a Munro with Edward
Today we had a day out … as a family … out in the outdoors. We donned our walking boots, but also plenty of layers, hats, scarves, gloves as the weather was pretty cold, very windy … well, we are in Scotland. We’re staying just outside Killin in a lovely cottage, one of many in fact, in a stunning location, surrounded by hills, fields, and just nothingness as far as you can see. It was a last minute decision to come away, but I think we were just really lucky in finding some

Life Chez Dee Episode #30: Floating
Well this is something a bit different … I went for a float. For those who don’t know what that is, I’ll explain, but I think it’s probably best to rewind to how this all came about. Rossco’s Float Rooms have opened not far from me in Ansdell. I noticed that they had opened fairly recently, and I’ve often wondered about what it was all about, as I’ve driven past. It’s always caught my eye, even late at night, when Ross is still there clearly attending customers with late appo

Life Chez Dee Episode #28: Claude and Pablo
I couldn’t let another week pass without talking about the new members of the Dee household. We have two beautiful black kittens. They’re about 4 months old. It’s an approximation because it’s what the cat sanctuary think their age is. The kittens are brothers and from a litter of 4, their sisters we unfortunately said goodbye to when we brought these two lovely brothers home with us last week. It was a hard decision choosing which kittens to go for, but we decided to opt for

Life Chez Dee Episode #27: Walking is good for my body, mind, soul and writing
Today I went for a walk …. A Nordic walk. Those of you who read my blogs regularly, will know how much I love Nordic Walking. I’m hooked. I’ve skipped a few sessions. We’ve been away on holiday, and of course the Summer Holidays have made things a bit tricky for me to go for my walk with poles as I need to be around for Oliver. That’s not to say that I’ve not been walking, goodness no. We’ve done lots of walking during the summer holidays, and particularly on our break in Cor
